Day 1 – Thursday, October 2, 2014

Breakfast – eggs, onion, kale, avocado, homemade tomatillo sauce, black tea

Lunch – yams and beef on spaghetti squash

Dinner – broccoli dipped in sunshine sauce and cold shredded pork roast

Snacks – sunflower seeds and apple

It went reasonably well and felt great. Felt like my normal routine, with some new flavors added. However, since it was a field day for work, and my usual routine is to stop for ice cream halfway between Port Angeles and Kingston, it took some conscious thinking to walk past the ice cream bin at the shop.

Then, when I came home, it took some effort to NOT reach for my usual 2-3 Thin Mints I have right after work.

That evening, I went out with friends to a bar for an event. A free beer, FREE BEER was offered to me. A FREE BEER, PEOPLE. It was probably an IPA too, my favorite. Don said, Oh just start your plan tomorrow! No. I resisted and stayed with water with lemon the whole time. At the end of the day, I felt pretty good.

Day 2 – Friday, October 3, 2014

Breakfast – eggs, onion, kale, avocado, homemade tomatillo sauce, tea

Lunch – zucchini soup with shredded pork roast

Dinner – roasted pork tenderloin with parsnips and carrots, steamed green beans, yam with ghee

Snacks – sunflower seeds and apple

As predicted with the Whole30 plan, per the “timeline”, I woke up with a slight headache on Day 2, similar to a hangover. The folks who developed the plan said this is to be expected for days 2 and 3. Since I don’t have a ton of processed food and sugar in my regular diet, I think I’ve got it pretty easy these first few days, compared to others. I don’t want to kill anyone – yet (that comes later apparently). Although, my digestive system, er, went on a bender a bit after dinner. Not sure if that’s the parsnips (which never agree with my stomach but I LOVE THEM SO MUCH) or just the effects of suddenly stripping ALL sugars from my diet.

The Boyfriend ate dinner with me, but not to torture him too much, I made him a baked potato and he loaded it up with regular butter and cheese, plus had a hearty Pyramid Oktoberfest beer with his dinner. But he liked the pork and veggies and ate them all.

I’ll admit… I was a little bit jealous of the cheese, but more so about the beer. I really think beer is going to be my hardest fight, especially when I’m with friends.

ON a positive note though, I REALLY enjoyed the ghee on the yam. Very strong butter flavor, even for being unsalted butter. Fascinating.

Today is Day 3 and so far, so good. Zuke soup for breakfast, some tea and a busy day to keep me distracted. A little bit of a headache. Day 4 and 5 are supposed to be “KILL ALL THE THINGS” phase.” We’ll see. Tomorrow, I’m going hiking and then cooking up food for the next week – hopefully that will help.
